Diderot in the digital age

This proposal tries to make known the figure of Denis Diderot and promoting understanding of the importance of the Encyclopédie in the historical development of humanity. Nowadays, when we are immerse in the Information and Knowledge Society, we want to convey importance to the ability of learning to be informed, but also to our skill of producing information in a responsible way..

With this aim we want to generate a debate on the evolution of methods to gather and spreading knowledge by analyzing the most positive and negative aspects which these entail for humanity.  Through different dynamics we will reflect, in a group, on the new ways of processing, storing and showing knowledge in the digital age, on the educational role of the mass media and on the use of new technologies to democratize knowledge.

Artistic cartography of human rights

In this workshop we will learn and practice the basis of Visual Poetry and art as social critique. On a great world map we will go on an emotional tour through different visual artists’ visions about the state of human rights. We will learn to decode the keys of this way of artistic expression so that participants could create their own visual poem.

Art, as empowering and social factor for denouncement which will permit us to go on a historical tour through the legal evolution of fundamental rights of people, emphasizing the driving force of the Enlighted ideals of equality and progress but also denouncing the flagrant injustices which keep happening today.

Olympe de Gouges. Portraits for equality.

The figure of Olympe de Gouges and her role in the historical development of the Enlightenment and French Revolution has not been recognised enough. This workshop will make known her work and thought, which were pioneeri in the defense of women and oppressed minorities rights.

The activity suggests a reflexive approach to this leading character of History in such a way that this approach could be a useful device to work, on the one hand, matters of equality between women and men and, on the other hand, the status of women in current societies as a decisive factor for the progress of a peace and human rights culture.

At the same time, this workspace, intends to make us think, through art, about the ancestral gender models which remain in nowadays society and about how these models have an effect in our social and personal relationships.

Rights of women and peace pioneers

We propose a research workshop on the role of women in the development of the culture of peace with a tour about women awarded with the Nobel Peace Prize in the XX century. Taking as starting point the analysis of several photomontages and texts, participants in this workshop will do a research to discover the personality and contributions of these women which were promoters of peace during the last century.

The social injustices they faced will be broached in a new way and updated with visual and artistic materials referring to situations happening nowadays and which are related to the conflicts that these women tackled in the past.

Lights and shadows of the Enlightenment

A dynamic and playful workshop intended to improve the knowledge about some of the leading figures of the historical period of the Enlightenment, with the aim to approach to their main contributions to science, thought and arts.

We will also analyse the role of women in this period through the most significant figures and the reasons why it is difficult to find this female models, reasons stemming from the studying methodologies used by traditional historiography.

The workshop is based on an interactive game of clues, in which participants have to find out a set of leading characters in the period of Enlightenment. (Participation in the workshop is advisable only after the visit to the permanent exhibition).
